Sunny Days!

Today turned out to be a bright, sunny, beautiful day. We moved right from a cold wintery-like wet spring straight into summer. In Kensington we picked up not only our dry goods but also some plants for the garden. We found some San Romano tomato plants, a couple of cherry tomatoes, some yellow peppers, rosemary and basil.

Today was also our local Environment Day which meant that the city was giving away free compost for local gardens, so Mr.T made his way over to the school took pick up three loads for the garden. We used one load on the raised bed, one in the raised bed in our parking spot and the last in a container for potatoes.

In our long raised garden bed we planted the tomatoes amongst some strawberries that come back every year, with the peppers interspersed between them. In between these we planted some leeks and at the end of the garden some onions, spinach and swiss chard. In the back garden we planted some corn surrounded by green beans and two different kinds of squash to try the three sisters together. Beside these in another bed we planted some sunflowers, pumpkin and zucchini.  After planting everything in the morning Mr.T tackled the upper deck staining the sides that I had missed earlier in the week. It is a time consuming job, but well worth the effort.
