Another Archive Day

While Mr.T and I had a quiet weekend, we went for a long walk on Saturday and a shorter one yesterday just to the Home Sense and Winner's on Spadina and then to the Eaton Centre, today I decided to head back to the archives. I have been looking at the assessment records for a small section of our neighbourhood. Up until 1973 the records included a fair bit of information that today we would think was private. The records included all those who lived in the house, their occupations and status (either tenants or owners), their religion and of course the assessed value of the property. After 1973 the records become simpler, listing only the owner and tenants, their school support and the assessed value of the property. After moving from microfilm to microfiche the records I looked at today were the actual hard copy printouts which meant ordering five boxes at a time, then waiting around for them to be retrieved. While a tiring process looking at the records allows you a glimpse into the lives of those who lived in the neighbourhood.
