The Time has Come
The CBC reports this morning that the CRTC will release a ruling today whether high speed internet access should be considered an essential service. As the world becomes increasingly wired the gap between those who have and those who don't grows. Providing internet access to all citizens would help create equality of access. The internet today is no different to access to radio, television or telephones all of which were democratized and made accessible for all. Last April the U.N. declared internet access a basic human right. The time has come for Canada to join those countries around the globe who choose to make an investment in their people ensuring that every Canadian no matter where they are located has access to what the world has to offer via the World Wide Web.
